Aashirwad has been an iconic landmark of sorts for film buffs. After all, it was home to Bollywood’s original superstar Rajesh Khanna.
However, the Carter Road bungalow, which is currently owned by Shashi Kiran Shetty, will be demolished soon.
Shetty, the executive chairperson of Allcargo Logistics, had bought the property for Rs. 95 crore in August 2014 two years after the superstars demise. Considering the bungalow is over 50 years old, he plans to raze it and make way for a multi-storey building.
Shetty, who plans to move into the new house in the next 18 months, intends to retain the name ‘Aashirwad.
Interestingly, the bungalow was called Dimple when Khanna bought it from veteran actor Rajendra Kumar. Khanna then rechristened it Aashirwad. While the bungalow was considered unlucky by Kumar as he suffered a string of flops, Kaka delivered 15 hits in a row after moving into the house.
